As the State Administrative Council had already approved a Seperate department for Land Registration in J&K, the Government today ordered that Pawan Kotwal, Financial Commissioner Revenue as Inspector General of Registration in J&K.
The additional Deputy Commissioners have been designated as Registrars and SDMs have been designated as Sub Registrars. Pertinent to mention here that as a matter of past practise, the registry in J&K have been done by Courts, However all across India, the power of Registry has been delegated to Government officers working as Executive Magistrates.
After the making of UTs, in accordance with the Registration act of 1908, the Executive Magistrates have been delegated the power to register transfer of Land.
